Route 9G near the Old Town of Hyde Park police station was closed until late Thursday afternoon after an accident involving 2 cars and a tractor trailer claimed the life of one of the drivers.
Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office would not confirm the driver’s identity, only that the driver was female and was operating one of the cars.
The initial investigation shows a car driven by 57 year old Joseph Welsh of Hyde Park, was traveling north on Rt 9G shortly after 10:00 AM, when he entered into the southbound lane, striking the woman’s vehicle head on, causing her vehicle to turn sideways in the roadway. As a result of her car being turned sideways, a flatbed truck, owned by Allied Building Products Corp of East Rutherford, N.J., struck the woman’s car broadside. Police were on scene for over 5 hours investigating the incident.
Welsh was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Douglas Redlich, 57, was not injured.
Dutchess County Sheriffs were assisted at the scene by teams from the Roosevelt, Staatsburg and Fairview fire districts and Hyde Park police.
