MONTICELLO WOMAN ARRESTED FOR FORGERY AND FALSIFYING BUSINESS RECORDS
Monticello police arrested 53 year old Renee Sylvester of Monticello on Wednesday October 10, 2012. Sylvester was charged with felony forgery in the 2nd degree and misdemeanor falsifying business records in the 2nd degree.
Monticello police with assistance from the Sullivan County Department of social services special investigation unit and the Sullivan County district attorney office arrested Sylvester who was previously employed as the housing director for the recovery center in Monticello.
An investigation began when the recovery center reported to Monticello police that several clients had reported that they had given money to Sylvester for rent at off site housing units but subsequently found out that their rents had not been paid.
A check of DSS paperwork revealed that on august 8, 2011 Sylvester completed an official written instrument issued by the Sullivan County family services and submitted it to DSS for $377.00 for one client. Sylvester then submitted an altered duplicate in the same amount for $377.00 to the recovery center but used a different clients name.
The investigation showed that Sylvester had used the same case number on the submitted paperwork but the clients each had a separate and unique case number assigned by DSS.
Sylvester was arraigned before acting village of Monticello justice martin miller and released after posting $5,000.00 bond pending further court action.
The investigation is continuing by the Monticello police, DSS and the Sullivan County district attorney office.
