Deputies and detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office were called to investigate a fatal accident that occurred early Wednesday morning on Route 209 in the Town of Marbletown.
According to detectives, an 18-wheel tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on Route 209 when it collided with a northbound pickup truck head-on near the intersection of Whitelands Road just after 5:00 AM this morning.
The collision forced the pickup truck off the road and caused the tractor-trailer to overturn.
The driver of the pickup truck, 42 year old Peter Hull of Ellenville, was declared dead at the scene by members of the Ulster County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The condition of 40 year old Ciro Rodrigues of Yonkers, the driver of the tractor-trailer, was not released at this time by the sheriff’s office.
Detectives were assisted by the NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and the NYSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, the Kripplebush-Lyonsville Fire Department, Accord Fire Department, Stone Ridge Fire Department, the Kingston Fire Department HazMat Team, NYS DOT and Marbletown First Aid Unit.
An undetermined amount of diesel fuel from the tractor-trailer as well as construction debris that was being hauled spilled onto the roadway. Route 209 was closed for several hours due to the crash.
The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office at 845-338-3640.
