Wanted Monticello Man Arrested For 1st Degree Rape

Monticello police arrested 31 year old Michael P. Burnett of Monticello on Friday October 26, 2012.

Burnett was charged with felonies for rape in the 1st degree and unlawful imprisonment in the 1st degree, misdemeanors for obstructing breathing or circulation and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Burnett was also wanted by the city of Middletown police on an arrest warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Burnett was arrested following an investigation after a 25 year-old female reported to Monticello police that Burnett had sexually assaulted her at approximately 5:30 AM Friday. The victim who only recently became acquainted with Burnett had asked Burnett for a ride early Friday morning to a residence on Liberty Street. Burnett drove the victim into a parking lot where he then choked her before sexually assaulting the victim.

Burnett released the victim and drove off. The victim then went to the Monticello police station where she was taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.

Monticello police were able to locate Burnett at 10:30 AM Friday in a residence on Park Avenue in the village of Monticello were he was then arrested. He was remanded to the Sullivan County jail without bail pending further court action.
