A Wallkill high school teen is dead after she was ejected from a car she was a passenger of Monday night.
The two car accident occurred approximately 7:00 PM on Route 32, a short distance north of Mill Street. Four others were also injured according to Town of Newburgh Police.
Chief Michael Clancy stated that the initial investigation revealed one car was passing another when the crash happened. One vehicle, a silver Audi, was split completely in half leaving its halves nearly 200 feet apart. Witnesses told police, the driver was heading southbound and passing other vehicles at a high rate of speed when it crashed head on into another car.
The teenage girl was the backseat passenger in the Audi and pronounced dead at the scene.
Four other victims were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries, including one person from the other car. Two were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, one to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh and one to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
No names were released at the time of this report and the accident is still being investigated.
Hudson Valley Insider originally published that a second teen had died as a result of their injuries sustained in the crash. The information we received was not accurate and at this time, HVI has no reason to think otherwise.
We will update this story when more details are released.
