ULSTER COUNTY EXECUTIVE MIKE HEIN TO APPLY FOR ASSISTANCE FOR HOMEOWNERS AFFECTED BY HURRICANE IRENE

On behalf of Ulster County, County Executive Mike Hein is applying for Community Development Block Grant funding to assist low income homeowners in need of housing improvements.  Priority will be given to homeowners needing repairs due to Hurricane Irene and/or Tropical Storm Lee.  Rural Ulster Preservation Company (RUPCO) will administer the program on behalf of the County.

County Executive Hein stated, “Ulster County continues efforts to assist howneowners and businesses impacted by these terrible storms. I urge all eligible homeowners interested in participating to contact RUPCO at (845) 331-9860 ext 220 to ensure that their needs are incorporated into this application for funding.”

Ulster County, working with RUPCO intends to apply for $750,000.  Applications are due on August 17, 2012.  Past applications for CDBG funding have been successful. Most recently, in 2011 Ulster County was awarded $750,000.  If this grant application is successful, funds are expected to be available in the spring of 2013.

Kevin O’Connor, Executive Director of RUPCO said. “Hurricane Irene exacerbated the need for housing repairs within the County.  RUPCO is committed to providing housing assistance to those in need and we are pleased to be able to assist the County in this application.”
