Tuesday Morning Fire Destroys City of Newburgh Home

Over three-dozen City of Newburgh Firefighters battled a three alarm blaze early Tuesday morning in the east end of the city.

The pre-dawn fire damaged a three story home at 40-42 Bayview Terrace. The four families living in the home’s multiple apartments were able to escape the buidling as smoke and flames spread through the buidling. A total of 19 people have been left homeless as a result of the fire.

Two firefighters were treated at St Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, one for a knee injury and the other for am injured shoulder.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but officials believe the blaze started on the lower floor. The entire building sustained  fire, smoke and water damage

The City of Newburgh Fire Department was assisted by fire personnel from Beacon, Cornwall, Cornwall-on-Hudson, Vails Gate, Orange Lake, Goodwill, New Windsor, West Point at the Stewart Air National Guard.
