Town of Newburgh Police Officers Deliver Baby

On January 5, 2013, at about 5:30 am, the Town of Newburgh Police Department received a call that there was a woman in labor at the Mobil Mart located at #246 Route 17K in the Town of Newburgh.  Officers Laura Dunn and Anthony Kuhn were dispatched to the scene.

Officer Dunn arrived first, realizing that the birth was imminent, she immediately began instructing the expectant mother as to what to do.  Officer Kuhn arrived on the scene and assisted Officer Dunn with the delivery.  A healthy 7 lb 4 oz baby boy, Jacob, was born to Abby Way of Montgomery at 5:38 am.  Jacob’s grandmother, Delilah Way, was present and witnessed her grandsons birth in the back seat of their car.

Mobil Life Support Services and the Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene.  The mother and baby were transported to the Newburgh campus of the St. Lukes / Cornwall Hospital.

Officer Dunn and Officer Kuhn are Emergency Medical Technicians who volunteer during their off duty hours.  Officer Dunn is a volunteer with the Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Officer Kuhn is the Chief of the Pocatello Volunteer Fire Department in Orange County.
