Town of Newburgh Man Arrested on Gun Charges in City of NewburghJul 31st, 2012 | By HV Insider | Category: Featured Articles
On July 30, 2012 at approximately 4:28am City of Newburgh Police received a phone call for shots fired in the area of the rear parking lot of the Department of Motor Vehicles located at 128 Broadway. Responding officers did not locate anyone in the area nor did they locate any victims.
A short while later at 4:55 AM City of Newburgh Police received another phone call for shots fired in the rear DMV lot. As responding patrol units entered the parking lot they observed two men running south on Chambers St. Officers were able to stop one of the males and followed the second ,identified as Town of Newburgh resident 23 year old Stanley Maskey, into 34 Chambers St. where they observed several rounds of ammunition and an empty handgun holster.
At the scene officers located numerous spent shell casings and live rounds on the sidewalk and street in the immediate vicinity of 34 Chambers St. Officers were able to locate a discarded 25 caliber semiautomatic handgun near the sidewalk of 40 Chambers St.
City of Newburgh Police Detective Division began to assist patrol with the investigation. As a result of that investigation Stanley Maskey was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree.
It is believed that the shots fired were not at any particular person and not for any particular reason. He was arraigned the same day in the City of Newburgh Court where he was sent to Orange County Jail on $10,000 bail.
No charges were filed on the other subject.
