Town of Newburgh Police are investigating an armed robbery of a local restaurant.
At about 5:30 AM on Saturday morning, Town Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Applebee’s Restaurant on Rt. 300. When officers arrived they were met by the night manager who told them he had been held up at about 4:30AM and locked inside the restaurants cooler. He said that after an hour he was able to escape and summon the police. He was not injured.
Accoridng to the victim, he was leaving the restaurant at 4:30 AM when he was approached by a male subject in the parking lot saying he was having car trouble. The manager replied that he could not help. The man then displayed a handgun and forced the victim back into the restaurant. The suspect then took the nights cash receipts before locking the victim in the cooler before fleeing.
The suspect was described as a black male, approx. 6’ tall, 200 lbs. wearing a grey tank-top shirt and cargo shorts.
