Too Chicken to Plunge Event for Special Olympics NY

Jan 18th, 2015 | By | Category: Community Happenings

Union Tavern of 51st Market Street, in Poughkeepsie, is hosting its first annual “Too Chicken to Plunge” party in support of the Fishkill chapter of Special Olympics Polar Plunge on January 23, 2015. The event, which takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., is an opportunity for those who are “too chicken” to plunge into the chilly New York waters to get involved and help raise money for the Special Olympics.

At only a $20 entry fee, patrons will receive the same amenities as if they were plungers, including a Special Olympics commemorative glass, three-hour open bar for domestic draft beer and Landshark, and participate in a silent auction for the opportunity to win sports memorabilia from the New York Giants and Yankees. This family-friendly event will also include $5 chicken appetizers for all our chickens and a DJ for those who prefer to dance rather than dive.

Patrons will also have the opportunity to start a new team, join an existing team or join as an individual online to raise additional money for the Plunge.

“When I found out we had the opportunity to sponsor our first event for Special Olympics, I jumped right on it,” says Chris Valerius, Union Tavern’s General Manager. “It’s all about helping the community from within. We’re excited to host this event- even if it’s for all the ‘chickens’.”

To join the event, head over to Union Tavern’s Facebook page (, the Fishkill Polar Plunge Page ( or just show up at the door!
