Three Ice Fisherman Rescued From Muscoot Reservoir

On Monday March 4, 2013, at approximately 3:20 p.m., three ice fishermen stranded on melting ice in the Muscoot Reservior near Plumbrook Road were successfully rescued by a multi-agency police and fire department response.

The subjects, Wen N. Chan from Brooklyn, Chuck Y. To from Brooklyn and Chi S. Liu, from New York, NY, were heard yelling for assistance on the ice by a passerby.

To and Liu were rescued by an NYSP helicopter which lowered a member of the State Police Special Operations Response Team to retrieve them. They were transported by Somers Fire Department Ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital.

Chan was retrieved from the reservoir by Golden’s Bridge Fire Dept. personnel with assistance from Somers and Yorktown Fire Departments. He was transported by Somers Fire Dept. Ambulance to Putnam Hospital.

All subjects are being treated for hypothermia and expected to make a full recovery.

Responding to assist in the rescue were the New York State Police, the Town of Somers Police Dept., the Town of Lewisboro Police Dept., the Town of Somers Fire Dept., the Goldens Bridge Fire Dept., and the Town of Yorktown Fire Dept.
