Three Arrested For City of Newburgh Home Invasion

On April 17, 2013 at approximately 2:45 AM City of Newburgh Police responded to a Johnes St. address for a burglary in progress.

Upon the arrival of Officer’s Kevin Lahar and Charles Cruz they stopped two male subjects that were leaving the residence. After stopping the subjects they discovered that they were both armed with loaded semi-automatic handguns. They were quickly taken into custody on Johnes St.

Other responding Officer’s Roman Scuadroni, Ricardo Rivera and Robert Pedrick entered the residence and located a third suspect attempting to hide in a closet. The subject resisted arrest and was taken into custody after the deployment of a TASER.

Investigation revealed that the victim was walking home when he was confronted by three males.

Two of the males pointed semi-automatic handguns at the victim. The victim was pistol whipped multiple times and forced to open the main door to the residence. Once inside the common hallway he was robbed of his keys and cell phone. One of the suspects then utilized the key to open an apartment door. One other occupant was in the apartment at the time. As police vehicles began to arrive two of the subjects left the residence and were apprehended outside.

The third subject attempted to secrete himself inside the apartment before being arrested.

Arrested outside were 22 year old City of Poughkeepsie resident Carlton Belton and 22 year old City of Newburgh resident Jerry Homes.

Arrested inside was 18 year old City of Poughkeepsie resident Roquan Harris.

All three were charged with numerous felonies including Robbery, Burglary and Weapons Possession.

Harris was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest. He was also wanted out of the City of Poughkeepsie for felony drug and weapons possession.

Belton was also charged with possession of a controlled substance for possessing 55 bags of heroin.

All three were held pending arraignment at City of Newburgh Court.
