Newburgh Enlarged City School District’s Temple Hill Academy recently completed the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart as part of the school’s healthy body and healthy mind initiative.
Students from kindergarten to eighth grade participated in numerous jump rope and basketball activities during their physical education classes. The students also received lessons from the physical education staff, Jane Scott, Chris Leggett, Jim Horton and Carmen Calderon-Peter, regarding the importance of a healthy heart.
The lessons focused on the anatomy of the heart, the importance of exercise, proper nutrition and the damaging effects of tobacco.
The program was coordinated by Temple Hill Academy’s school nurses Judy LeRoy and Maura Koennecke.
