Larceny and Vandalism at Catholic Shrine
Two New Lebanon Teens vandalize the Wayside Shrine to Our Lady of Lords Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception.
The Shrine at the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception has been a place of comfort and quiet reflection in the New Lebanon community and beyond for generations. Unfortunately, it has also been a target of larceny and vandalism on several occasions.
On Monday morning, a church volunteer noticed damage in the shrine located on Route 20 and contacted the State Police in New Lebanon. Trooper Nicholas Lombardi, acting on a lead, arrested two 14-year-old New Lebanon boys each for Petit Larceny, Attempted Petit Larceny and two counts of Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree.
The investigation revealed that overnight, the teens ruined over 80 candles, stole change from a reflecting pool and damaged the offering box in an attempt to steal the money within.
Due to their ages, the boys were issued appearance tickets for an August 2, 2012 appearance in the Columbia County Family Court and were released to their parents.
