At about 2:00AM Sunday, Town of Newburgh Police received a call of a fight and shots fired at the bar/dance club in the Knights Inn motel, 90 Rt. 17K. Several men were apparently told by management to leave the bar area after they apparently snuck inside. One man then allegedly pulled a handgun and fired several rounds inside the bar and in the lobby area of the motel. Several men fled across Rt. 17K as police units arrived. Officers from several agencies began a search of the area and two suspects were located in a swampy area about a half mile away. Several other suspects got away. A revolver used in the shooting was recovered.
No injuries to any patrons or employees of the Knights Inn. Approximately 60 people were in the bar at the time.
K-9 units from New Windsor PD and NYSP assisted in the search as did police personnel from the Sheriffs Department, Walden and Montgomery.
Daniel Nava, 23, of Beacon Street, Newburgh was charged with Attempted Gang Assault 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Reckless Endangerment 1st.
Jose Martinez, 24, of City Terrace, Newburgh was charged with Attempted Gang Assault 2nd.
Both men are being held in the Town of Newburgh lock-up pending arraignment later in the day.
