Music by Debussy, Purcell, Barrows, Ravel and Mozart on Tap for Grand Foyer in Historic Morrison Hall
SUNY Orange’s Chamber Ensemble will bring the music of Claude Debussy, Henry Purcell, John R. Barrows, Maurice Ravel and Wolfgang Mozart to life at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 6 with a concert to be held in the grand foyer on the first floor of historic Morrison Hall on the College’s Middletown campus.
Under the direction of Dr. Hilarie Clark Moore, the Chamber Ensemble has arranged a musical program featuring Debussy’s “Le petit nègre” and “Golliwogg’s Cakewalk” from “Children’s Corner,” Purcell’s “Abdelazer,” Barrow’s “March,” Ravel’s “Ma Mere l’Oye (Mother Goose Suite)”; and Mozart’s “Andante” and “Contredanse” from “Divertimento No. 8, K. 213”, along with Mozart’s “Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K. 581.” The performance of Mozart’s clarinet quintet will feature clarinetist Allegra Smith, music educator at Middletown’s Twin Towers Middle School.
Morrison Hall, the century-old architectural centerpiece of SUNY Orange’s Middletown campus, is a historic landmark that was built by Webb Horton in the early 1900s. Following Horton’s death in 1908, the home remained in his family until ultimately being bequeathed to the John Morrison family. Orange County acquired the Morrison estate thanks to the generosity of Christine Morrison, who donated the property in order to help the county establish the College. Morrison Hall has a long history of hosting cultural events for the community.
Admission is free. For additional information, contact the SUNY Orange Arts and Communication Department at (845) 341-4787. For information on all cultural and artistic events at SUNY Orange, visit “The Arts at SUNY Orange” Facebook page at .
