Monticello police arrested 35 year old Derek Keysaw and 35 year old Jennifer Irelan, both of Monticello on Wednesday May 29, 2013.
At 12:55 PM Wednesday Monticello police responded to a reported disturbance between Keysaw and Irelan in room #29 of the Heritage Inn on Broadway in the village of Monticello. Upon arrival of officers, screaming, yelling and the breaking of glass could be heard coming from inside the defendant’s room. When officers entered the room, the two were fighting with each other and property of the motel had been damaged. Drug paraphernalia was also in plain sight of the officers.
Both defendants were then arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree and misdemeanors for criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, criminally using drug paraphernalia, obstructing governmental; administration, resisting arrest, criminal mischief in the 4th degree and violation of unlawful possession of a marihuana.
While being placed in police vehicles Irelan kicked Officer David Lindsay in the groin and Keysaw attempted to kick out the windows of a police vehicle. Irelan was additionally charged with felony-attempted assault in the 2nd degree.
A warrant was issued for the room and police recovered 67 decks of heroin, drug packaging materials, hypodermic syringes and a small quantity of marihuana.
Keysaw and Irelan were arraigned in the Town of Forestburg justice court before judge Mary Jean Carroll and remanded to the Sullivan County jail on $40,000.00 bail each pending further court action.
The Sullivan county district attorney office assisted Monticello Police during the investigation.
