Saugerties Man Arrested After Pointing Rifle at a Woman

A Saugerties man was arrested Sunday after he was accused of tearing up a neighbors lawn with an ATV and pointing a rifle at a woman.

Derek LeGoff, 31, was charged with first-degree menacing and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.

Police were called around 10:30 a.m. to Route 9W north of the village. The homeowner told police that LeGoff spun around on his ATV and rode out the driveway. The woman went in her car to get a closer look at the ATV in question. When she reached the end of the driveway, the supect and her came face to face as he was still sitting on the ATV. She says he pointed a rifle at her. After turning around she drove back to her home followed by LeGoff, where her husband called 911.

Town police found the ATV and recovered an unloaded semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle and a pellet gun.

He was taken to the Ulster County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.
