On March 4, 2013, at approximately 11:47 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie Police Department patrol officers responded to North White Street for a report of a possible fight on progress. Responding officers found a subject lying on the ground.

Officers attempted to interview him believing he was a victim of an assault or possibly intoxicated. While being interviewed, this subject, later identified as Berry Pittman Jr., a 37-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident, attempted to elbow and punch the responding officers in the face.

While he was being restrained he physically fought with the officers. Pittman was taken into custody and police recovered 109 “decks” of heroin he had in his possession.

Two officers were injured during the arrest process.

Pittman was charged with two counts of Assault 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Resisting Arrest, and Obstruction of Governmental Administration. He was held pending arraignment in City of Poughkeepsie City Court.
