City of Poughkeepsie police have made an arrest in connection with the mid-week killing of a 99 year old woman in her home.
Police arrested 20 year old Javon Tyrek Rogers Friday night about 11:00 PM and charged him with first degree murder and first degree burglary for the death of Fannie Gumbinger, who was found dead Wednesday morning in her Underhill Avenue home by a caretaker.
Police originally stated the circumstances surrounding the death as ‘suspicious’. Results of an autopsy performed by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s office showed that Gumbinger had died of ‘multiple injuries’ which prompted police to classify the elderly woman’s death a homicide.
As a result of the investigation, Rogers is also considered a suspect in several burglaries throughout the City of Poughkeepsie, including a reported burglary on Lockerman Avenue Wednesday.
