OSCEAN to Hold Transportation Summit June 26Jun 4th, 2013 | By HV Insider | Category: Community Happenings
The Orange and Sullivan Counties Employment Alliance Network (OSCEAN), in collaboration with the Local Business Advisory Council (LBAC), is hosting a Transportation Summit on Wednesday, June 26 at the Ritz Theater Lobby at 111 Broadway in Newburgh from 10 AM to 3 PM.
OSCEAN and LBAC seek to develop a regional transportation network, recognizing that transportation to and from jobs in Orange and Sullivan Counties is a major barrier to job seekers who cannot drive.
“The goal of this summit is to bring together the various parties that use, fund and provide public transportation in Orange and Sullivan Counties with the purpose of determining how public transit can best meet the needs of the community,” said Michael Kochler, OSCEAN Chairman. “The current system of public transportation in Orange and Sullivan Counties is not designed to get people to and from work within the region. This affects anyone in the region that does not or cannot drive.”
OSCEAN has invited public and private transportation providers, businesses, administrators and policy makers to participate in this initial summit. Among those who will participate are Mid-City Transit Corp.; Middletown Transit Corp.; Orange County Planning Commission; Accessible Transportation, Inc. of New Windsor; Medicar Inc. of Monticello; Night Owl Taxi of Greenwood Lake, N.Y.; Senator William Larkin and Assemblymember James Skoufis. U.S. Representative Sean Patrick Maloney will be represented by Ed Brancati (District Director) and Oscar Dunham (District Representative for Orange County).
OSCEAN is a partnership of not-for-profit human service agencies, businesses and interested public entities that collaborate to further the employment of persons with disabilities. To register for the summit or for more information contact: Michael Kochler
