Orange County Veterans Food Pantry Receives Two GrantsJun 29th, 2013 | By HV Insider | Category: Featured Articles
Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana and Orange County Director of Veterans Services Tony Zippo are pleased to announce that the County’s Veterans Food Pantry is the recipient of two grants. The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York has awarded the Orange County Veterans Food Pantry $12,400. United Way of Dutchess and Orange Counties awarded the Food Pantry $400.
These grant funds will be used toward the Veterans Food Pantry’s purchase of food and household essentials for weekly delivery to the homes of veterans and veterans’ dependent families that are enrolled in the Food Pantry. To date, more than 200 veterans and veterans’ families receive weekly deliveries from the Orange County Veterans Food Pantry.
“It is unfortunate that there are men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces that now find themselves in a position where they are unable to put adequate food on their tables for themselves and their loved ones,” said County Executive Diana. “I’m proud that we as a county are able to provide this Food Pantry as a way of showing our support and saying ‘thank you for your service’ to these brave men and women.”
The Orange County Veterans Food Pantry, which is housed at the ShopRite Supermarket in Montgomery, makes weekly deliveries to the homes of veterans. Food Pantry participants receive a mix of perishable and non-perishable food items, as well as essential household supplies.
“We are grateful for the support from the Regional Food Bank and United Way,” said Director Zippo. “The cash award they provide will go a long way in providing food to those veterans and veterans’ families in need in Orange County. It is thanks to support from these organizations and others like them that we are able to help our veterans make ends meet during challenging times,” added Zippo.
Any one in need of this service, or looking to donate or volunteer with the Veterans Food Pantry should contact Director Zippo at 291-2470 or visit the Veterans Services pages on the County website at www.orangecountygov.com.
