Orange County Residents Save More than $500,000 on Prescription Costs
In First Year with ProAct Rx Discount Card Program
Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana is pleased to announce that Orange County residents have saved more than $500,000 on prescription drug costs since the County first introduced the ProAct Prescription Discount Card Program just one year ago. The discount program is made available to all Orange County residents at no cost to the resident or the County. In the first year, Orange County residents have filled nearly 13,000 prescriptions with an average savings of 47% or $39.46 per prescription.
The County first introduced the ProAct discount program to in order to help those residents with little or no prescription coverage obtain their medications at an affordable price. At the start of the program, discount cards were mailed directly to every household in the County. Cards were also made available, and are still available, for those who need them at County agencies including the County Executive’s Office, Department of Social Services, Department of Health, and Office for the Aging, as well as local pharmacies. Residents may also print their own discount card via the ProAct website at www.NYRxDiscountCard.com .
“It’s very important for residents to remember that the ProAct prescription discount card program is still active in Orange County and can be utilized by anyone who needs assistance with meeting their prescription drug expenses,” said County Executive Diana. “Best of all it’s provided free to our residents and at no cost to our County. By partnering with ProAct, we’re able to help residents manage this aspect of their health care needs and stay within their budgets,” added Diana.
Orange County’s ProAct discount card program covers every medication, including some pet medications. Cards are accepted at most pharmacies in Orange County and at more than 60,000 pharmacies nationwide, ensuring easy access to these valuable savings. The program has been made available to residents at absolutely no cost to the County or the tax payers and has no fees associated with filling a prescription with the card. Card users simply present the discount card at their local pharmacy whenever picking up a prescription medication and start saving immediately.
The Prescription Drug Discount Card Program provides residents with easy access to money saving discounts. There are no prerequisites to take advantage of this program – residents simply present the discount card at any participating pharmacy to begin saving.
