ORANGE OFFICE FOR THE AGING SCHEDULES CAR FIT EVENTS FOR SENIORS IN AUGUST
Aug. 9 Port Jervis, Aug. 23 Middletown, Aug. 30 New Windsor
Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana, along with Office for the Aging Director Ann Marie Maglione, announced three Car Fit events for the month of August in Port Jervis, Middletown, and New Windsor. Car Fit is a free, interactive and educational program designed to improve older driver safety. Trained volunteers provide information to ensure the safest “fit” for older drivers to their vehicles.
“We are delighted to present such a helpful program to our older adults that make our roads safer for all. We are grateful to the Traffic Safety Program, the SUNY Orange Center for Assistive and Rehabilitative Technology (CART), and Elant for their efforts in Orange County,” said County Executive Diana.
The Car Fit program will be offered on Fridays from 9:00 am – 12 pm (noon) at each location. The August 9th program will be offered at Water’s Edge, 208 East Main Street in Port Jervis. The August 23rd program will be offered at SUNY Orange’s Middletown campus, at 115 South Street in Middletown. The final August session, on August 30th, will take place at New Windsor Senior Housing, 2115 Senior Court in New Windsor.
Director Maglione said, “People are living longer and driving is such a large part of holding onto our independence. The mission of our office is to support independence for older adults and Car Fit is the perfect way to do that. I have taken this training myself and can validate the value of Car Fit.”
