ORANGE COUNTY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES OFFERS SPRING EMT CLASSES
EMT Original Course begins Feb. 4, EMT Refresher begins Jan. 22
Orange County Deputy Commissioner, Division of Emergency Medical Services, Frank Cassanite today announced that the County is sponsoring and is now accepting applications for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Spring Courses beginning JANUARY and taking place at the Orange County Emergency Services Center, 22 Wells Farm Road in Goshen, NY.
“As we stated back in the fall, there are now new requirements in place to meet national standards as adopted by New York State Department of Health,” said Deputy Commissioner Cassanite.
Students taking either the original or refresher are now required to submit documentation that they have taken the following three (3) on-line and free courses: National Incident Management System, An Introduction IS-700; Introduction to Incident Command System IS-100b; and Hazmat Awareness.

The EMT Original Course begins on Monday, February 4, 2013 and will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The New York State Certification Examination will be on Thursday, June 20, 2013. Students are required to purchase their own textbooks, workbooks and pocket mask. Required textbook for this course is “Emergency Care,” 12th edition, and workbook by Brady, which may be purchased online at www.bradybooks.com
The EMT Refresher Course begins on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 and will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Tuesdays. The New York State Certification Examination will be on Thursday, June 20, 2013. Students must send a copy of their EMT Certification card along with their application.
Students are required to have their own pocket mask. Required textbook for this course is “Emergency Care,” 12th edition, by Brady, which may be purchased online at www.bradybooks.com
Deputy Cassanite said, “Due to the change over to the national standards, there is about 13 extra hours of material we must provide before the student will be allowed to take the challenge written exam.”
In order to meet this requirement, the 13 hours will be given on Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If the student does not take the 13 hours of supplemental material they may not take the challenge exam and must sit for all lectures. The student may still challenge the practical portion of the course.
Those who are applying, but are not a member of a volunteer EMS, municipal EMS, private EMS agency or first responder agency with an EMS agency code number issued by the NYS-DOH, must submit a check (costs below) with their application payable to Orange County Commissioner of Finance
$700.00 for the EMT-B Original $220.00 CFR Original
$335.00 for the EMT-B Refresher/challenge $100.00 CFR Refresher
If you are a member of a volunteer EMS, municipal EMS, private EMS or first response agency with an EMS agency code number issued by the NYS-DOH, the Verification of Sponsorship form must accompany your application.
