NFA Prom Raises Money for Hurricane Sandy Relief EffortsJun 24th, 2013 | By HV Insider | Category: Featured Articles
Newburgh Free Academy seniors decided to do more with less this year and give back to those in need. According to the Newburgh School District’s website, NFA senior class advisors Gina Scaduto and Melissa McKinstrie, students discussed the idea of having a beach themed prom and quickly realized that they had the potential to make the event extra special this year. After some consideration, NFA students decided to celebrate with a more minimal prom and instead donate a portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales to the American Red Cross to help Hurricane Sandy relief. The prom was held at Anthony’s Pier 9 on Saturday, June 8, 2013. In total, $1,500 was raised for relief efforts.
The funds raised came from having less expensive favors, donations from vendors, and using creative décor made from items already at the school. In addition, donations from Home Depot of Newburgh, Hudson Valley Photo Booth and Anthony’s Pier 9 helped the students achieve their goal.
