NFA Crew Hosts First Superbowl of GivingJan 29th, 2013 | By HV Insider | Category: Community Calendar
The NFA Varsity Crew Team, the only 100% community funded varsity team at the high school, will be holding its First Annual “Super Bowl of Giving” on Sunday, February 3, 2013, from 12 pm – 2 pm, at Shop Rite in Newburgh, to benefit the Newburgh Salvation Army. The Crew Team will be at Shop Rite to collect non-perishable food donations for the Newburgh Salvation Army Food Pantry, said Head Coach Ed Kennedy.
“This community came out and supported us, donating over $50,000.00 to keep the team alive, and we plan to continue to give back to the community in whatever way we can,” said Coach Kennedy.
“Our Team is well familiar with going to good neighbors, such as Shop Rite, to sell raffle tickets, that’s a large part of how we raised money this summer,” said NFA Varsity Crew Team Mom Juliana LoBiondo. “Now we will have about a dozen team members and parents, along with coaches, out there on Super Bowl Sunday, for our first every ‘Super Bowl of Giving.’ We will collect as much non-perishable food as we can for the Newburgh Salvation Army food pantry. If you see the Crew Team, please donate a can of soup of two.”
“It feels good to be able to give back to the community,” said Frankie Maurice, a senior at NFA who is a member of the NFA Varsity Crew Team and a member of the NFA Varsity Boys Swim Team. “We also hope to show our gratitude to the community by bringing back some medals this crew season.”
