Recently, the Newburgh Free Academy Class of 2001 made a generous contribution to benefit students at Temple Hill Academy in New Windsor in honor of its ten year reunion. Class members were asked to bring new or gently loved children’s books to the reunion which would later be donated to Temple Hill Academy to help encourage reading and education. In addition, Mount Saint Mary College’s Kappa Delta Pi partnered with the class to collect books which were then donated to the drive.

Reunion Co-Chairs Kim Driscoll and Gina DeMarco explained that the purpose of the event was to give back to their community especially the youth. The book drive was held in conjunction with The Heart of America Foundation which aims to increase literacy in communities across the country especially those in low income areas.

“We have donated a total of 1,233 books to Temple Hill Academy over the past few months,” explained Driscoll.  “For those of us in the Class of 2001, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District impacted who we are today and in honor of our ten year reunion we wanted to give back to students and help instill a love of reading.”
