Last September, twenty-eight Newburgh Enlarged City School District students traveled to SUNY Albany to do hands-on Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) experiments, and character-building workshops.  Following their trip to Albany, the students completed five after-school sessions at South Middle School. During that time, students and advisors extended the projects and worked on webpage design.

Recently, students returned to SUNY Albany to complete their projects.  At the culminating event, students had dinner with their parents and invited guests, displayed their work, and received certificates for the outstanding participation in the program.  Projects that students worked on include: robotics, video production, theater, radio frequency aircraft, alternative/renewable energy, and newsletter production.

The initiative is part of a collaborative effort between NECSD, the SUNY Albany Center for Urban Youth and Technology program, and the SUNY Albany’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.
