Newburgh Rowing Club Dine-In Fundraiser August 27Aug 14th, 2013 | By HV Insider | Category: Community Happenings
On Tuesday, August 27, 2013, the Newburgh Rowing Club will team up with the “Pizza Shop” to hold a dine-in Fundraiser. “We have been very successful with our grant-writing, which allows us to run a large scholarship-based program called the ‘Student Ambassador’ Program,” said Newburgh Rowing Club’s Director of Programs, Coach Ed Kennedy. “For two years, we have been able to teach under-served children ages 10 – 17 in the City of Newburgh to swim and to row, and they turn around and teach the next year’s crop of newcomers. We are thankful to the Hudson River Improvement Fund and the NYS DEC for heping to fund this program. However, the grants do not cover the equipment. Our program has expanded greatly with the Student Ambassador program, which has been great in every way. The one need we must see to for these kids, however, is the purchase of equipment like boats, riggers, and oars which are very expensive, even used.”
“All funds from the Pizza Shop Dine-In will go to fund equipment purchases for the Student Ambassador Program,” said Team Mom Juliana LoBiondo. “Even though Coach gets great deals on used equpment, it is still a great expense, Coach has a pretty good sized fleet of crew shells, wooden gig boats, kayaks and oars but our program is growing by leaps and bounds and we need more boats. Come in between 12 pm and 10 pm on August 27, 2013, with a flyer that will be available outside from our rowers. Meet members of the Newburgh Rowing Club, the Student Ambassador Program, and help our kids by enjoying some delicious pizza and pasta.”
“I love the Newburgh Rowing Club,” said Student Ambassador Fabrizio Rimac, “and I love pizza.”
