City of Newburgh 21st Century Program, NECSD School District, SUNY Orange and Community Partners Celebrate “Lights on Afterschool” Oct. 19
The City of Newburgh 21st Century Program in collaboration with the Newburgh Enlarged School District, SUNY Orange, Cornell University, Orange County Cooperative Extension and Education through Adventure, will celebrate “Lights on Afterschool” on Oct. 19. This year’s events will be held at SUNY Orange, Kaplan Hall, on Grand Street from 5-8 p.m.
A national event, Lights On Afterschool (spearheaded by the Afterschool Alliance), is dedicated to raising the awareness of afterschool programs and advocating for more afterschool investments. This event is supported by the U.S. Congress, governors, mayors, and advocates across the country to communicate the impact of afterschool programs on children, families, and communities, and as well as to help ensure that all children have access to affordable, quality afterschool programs.
Lights on Afterschool at Kaplan Hall will include interactive workshops, free giveaways; raffles, showcase, guest speakers and light refreshments. All are invited to attend.
In commemoration of Lights on Afterschool, during the month of October, photos of local youth served in after-school programs are displayed in “light bulb” frames in the lobby of City Hall, 83 Broadway.
