Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor nominee Kathy Hochul endorsed Terry Gipson and Cecilia Tkaczyk for State Senate. The endorsement was made as part of today’s Women’s Equality Express bus tour throughout the Hudson Valley to promote the Women’s Equality Agenda.

Governor Cuomo said of Gipson, “As Senator, Terry Gipson has demonstrated a clear commitment to economic development, women’s equality and affordable housing. We need Senator Gipson back in office this November in order to look out for the needs of the Hudson Valley.”

State Senator Terry Gipson said, “I thank Governor Cuomo for his support. The Governor and I worked closely together during last year’s budget to deliver state funding so that Dutchess County could repeal their onerous energy tax. I look forward to continuing to work together to deliver further property tax relief, support small businesses and pass the Women’s Equality Act. Together we will also continue our shared commitment to making smart investments to create good local jobs in the Hudson Valley.”

Governor Cuomo said of Tkaczyk, “Throughout her career in public service, Senator Tkaczyk has been a tenacious advocate for her district. She is exactly the type of leader we need with us in Albany in order to help bring about progressive reform in the next four years.”

“I am very pleased to have the endorsement of Governor Cuomo, and proud to stand with him as we fight to protect women’s rights, hold the line on property taxes and help small businesses and farms thrive in New York,” said State Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk.

The Women’s Equality Express was joined by numerous local elected and community leaders throughout the day, including its first stop at Mt. Kisco Public Library in Mt. Kisco, its second stop at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, and its third and final stop at the Rondout Neighborhood Center Gym in Kingston. As part of its efforts to engage directly with voters, the W.E.P. is encouraging all New Yorkers to sign up for women’s equality text alerts by texting “voteWEP” to 225568.

“The Women’s Equality Express bus tour is bringing the message to all corners of the state that the women of New York deserve full equality,” Lieutenant Governor nominee Kathy Hochul said. “All over New York we are seeing an outpouring of support for women’s equality and hundreds more New Yorkers stood up today to join thousands of others that are throwing their support behind helping crack the glass ceiling for New York’s women. The time for women’s equality is now and we will not stop until the Women’s Equality Act is law.”

In addition to the bus tour, which has previously made stops in Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, New York City, and Long Island, the W.E.P. also launched a massive grassroots campaign to encourage voters to only cast their ballots for candidates who have signed the pledge. The strategically targeted outreach also includes a digital and door-knocking operation to motivate voters to support W.E.P. pledge candidates, as well as a new
