NEW CATSKILL SLOGAN CONTEST GARNERS 3,714 SUBMISSIONS & OVERWHELMING SUPPORT
$1500 Grand Prize Winner to be Announced August 25
The Catskill tourism and travel industry was thrilled by the public’s positive support and feedback in helping to develop a new slogan to re-brand the popular upstate New York region. The “Capture the Catskills” slogan contest, which ended Sunday at 11:00 pm generated 3,714 submissions. The creative ideas poured in just days after launching the slogan contest on June 1. On August 25, the Catskill Park Resource Foundation (CPR) will announce the inspired winner whose creative thinking highlights the best of the Catskill region.
“The Capture the Catskills contest was created by CPR to harness the passion and creativity of Catskills enthusiasts,” said Dean Gitter, founder of Catskill Park Resource Foundation. “The winning, memorable tagline will be one that captures the essence of the Catskill experience, and reflects the natural, recreational, historic and community treasures of the region as well as the pride of the folks who continue to live and visit the beautiful Catskills area.”
Founded following the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Irene last August, the Catskill Park Resource Foundation’s core mission is to promote the Catskills to increase travel and tourism and economic recovery in the region. The winning slogan of the “Capture the Catskills” contest will be the cornerstone of a tourism promotion and branding campaign that will appear in marketing materials, advertising and publicity.
“It is encouraging that over 3,000 entries were received for the contest. This incredible response demonstrates the commitment and pride of our Catskills community and highlights the creativity that is treasured in our region,” said Eric Frances, Chairman of CPR and general manager of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.
“The Catskill Region has truly been an iconic brand as a tourism destination,” said Herb Clark, President of Catskill Association for Tourism Services (CATS) and Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Sullivan County Tourism. “The contest has created a great amount of enthusiasm and media attention that will generate visitation into the Catskills, one of the great vacation regions of New York State. We are pleased that since the contest was announced, the official website of CATS, www.visitthecatskills.com has seen a spike in web traffic.”
“I am thrilled at the outpouring of entries that emanated from the media coverage to promote this incredible gem, that is the Catskills. Ulster County and the Catskills are blessed with natural beauty that make it one of the finest travel destinations in the world,” said Mike Hein, Ulster County Executive.
“Catskill Park Resource Foundation Board Members from all four counties are excited about the overwhelming response to CPR’s slogan contest,” said Warren Hart, Tourism Director for Greene County.
“It’s wonderful to see all the counties cooperating towards an important goal,” said Eric Wedemeyer of Delaware County.
A panel of judges will choose the top five entries and announce them in a press conference to be held by the end of the month. Finalists and CPR supporters will invite all members of the general public to vote online for their favorite tagline. The $1,500 prize winner will be announced on August 25th at “Comedy in the Catskills” with Susie Essman, a CPR benefit concert, taking place at Belleayre.
