Monticello police arrested 30 year old James Carmack Jr of Monticello on Wednesday May 29, 2013. Carmack was charged with felonies for burglary in the 2nd degree and grand larceny in the 4th degree. Police say Carmack was arrested following an investigation into the burglary of a residence on Wood Avenue in the Village of Monticello that occurred on May 25.
Investigating officers were able to obtain video surveillance footage, which showed Carmack breaking into the residence through a rear window and stole jewelry worth approximately $2,000.00.
When Carmack was arrested on Wednesday he was found to be in possession of heroin, crack pipes and hypodermic syringes.He was also charged with misdemeanors for criminal mischief in the 4th degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.
Carmack was arraigned in the town of Forestburg justice court before judge Mary Jean Carroll and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $40,000.00 bail pending further court action.
