Monticello Man Arrested For Fake Fundraiser

Monticello police arrested Anthony Garrett, 26 of Monticello on Thursday December 27, 2012.
Garrett was charged with felony scheme to defraud in the 1st degree.
Garrett was arrested at 9:45 PM Thursday on Broadway after Monticello police received a complaint that he was soliciting for donations for the “IBAM” boxing club. Garrett had no affiliation whatsoever with the boxing club. A person who was affiliated with the club saw what Garrett was doing and alerted Monticello police.
When arrested Garrett had a clipboard with “IBAM” flyers and a sheet of paper with the names of 13 people listing them as donating funds.
Garrett was arraigned before village of Monticello justice Josephine Finn and remanded to the Sullivan county jail without bail pending further court action.
