Middletown Police STEP Up Traffic Enforcement

The City of Middletown Police Department, with the assistance of the New York State Police, conducted three separate operations during the months of August and September 2012 to curb aggressive and distracted driving, funded by a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP, is designed to enforce vehicle and traffic laws for such offenses as: Passing stop signs, following too closely, cell phone use, disobeying traffic control devices, etc.

The majority of the enforcement was conducted in the North St. Wickham Ave. and Dolson Ave. areas and resulted in 203 traffic tickets and 9 arrests.
