An Orange County Grand Jury has indicted a Middletown man in connection with the beating death of a man outside a Middletown bar in November.
23 year old Kevin J. Conklin is charged with 1st and 2nd degree Manslaughter in the death of 46 year old Allan Cardona on November 10, 2012 after the two were reportedly in a fight outside of G’s Westgate Inn in Middletown.
Prosecutors allege that Conklin beat Cardona with his fists and kicked him in the head once down on the ground.
Police responded to the bar on West Main Street just before 3:00 AM Saturday November 10, 2012 to find Cardona lying in front of the building unresponsive. He was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center, where he later died
The two Manslaughter counts allege different legal theories, 1st, that he intended to cause serious physical injury, resulting is Cardona’s death; 2nd, that he recklessly caused Cardona’s death.
Conklin is also charged with Assault in the 3rd degree, alleging that he assaulted another patron at the same bar about ane hour before he killed Cardona.
Conklin was arrested by Middletown police on November 10th and has been held in jail on $250,000 bail. He faces a maximum penalty of 25 years for 1st degree Manslaughter.
