As part of Governor Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative, the Mid-Hudson region will receive $82.8 million as an REDC “Top Performer,” according to an announcement made in Albany Thursday. The funding is part of a $709.2 million package of economic and community development aid available to 10 regions across New York State.

Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro in a statement said, “For the second time in the 4 years these awards have been announced, our region secured the rank of “Top Performer” in the statewide Consolidated Funding Application competition. Dutchess County projects will receive more than $8 million in state funds to support agribusiness, infrastructure, historic preservation, tourism, manufacturing and capital for small business.  These awards will help continue to move Dutchess County forward with critical investments in our community centers and development of the niche markets that make Dutchess County distinct in the state and in the nation.”

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus announced that Orange County has been awarded $12,194,731. “These Top Performer funds will be used to support our local economy and create jobs for Orange County residents. I was pleased to join Governor Cuomo in Albany for this special announcement, and I’d like to congratulate all mid-Hudson winners on their commitment to growing this economy and providing quality jobs to hardworking New Yorkers,” said Neuhaus.

Orange County project highlights include:

·         New production facility for brewer Kikkerfrosch LLC in Village of Goshen — $500,000
·         Conversion of former train station into healthcare facility for Middletown Community Health Center, Inc — $1,650,000
·         Facility expansion for City of Newburgh LED lighting manufacturer USAI — $1,250,000

Assemblymember Didi Barrett added, “The Mid-Hudson Valley and Capital regions have been awarded over $140 million by the Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) to help strengthen our economy and expand our core industries. The Mid-Hudson Valley has been named a “Top Performer” and received $82.8 million. This award is a testament to our regional council’s hard work and local team efforts.  I commend both local REDCs for putting forth plans that will help our local businesses create and retain good-paying jobs here at home. I look forward to continuing to work with business leaders and members of our regional councils to keep the momentum going, finding new and creative ways to spur economic growth while recognizing the unique strengths of our Hudson Valley’s hardworking men and women.”

The Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) program was formed in 2011 and aimed to redesign the state’s approach to economic development by recognizing the strengths and uniqueness of each region throughout New York State.

  1. This makes me wonder if the sudden, magical appearance of one million dollars for a Poughkeepsie youth center in 2017 (and meant to silence the many 2015 budget questions) had anything to do with these awards?
