Maher on Assembly Dems Failing to Allow MMA VoteMay 8th, 2012 | By HV Insider | Category: Political
STATEMENT BY ASSEMBLY CANDIDATE BRIAN MAHER REGARDING THE FAILURE OF THE ASSEMBLY DEMOCRATS TO ALLOW A VOTE ON LEAGALIZING MIXED MARTIAL ARTS:
Assembly candidate Brian Maher, running in the newly created 101st Assembly District, released the following statement:
“It is sad and unfortunate that Speaker Silver would not only kill an opportunity to grow New York’s economy, but would do so in a way that thwarts the democratic process. Legalizing MMA would bring millions of dollars in much needed revenue to our state. Neighboring states are taking advantage of MMA events and New York is missing a huge opportunity.
Even more discouraging, is the apparent lack of transparency and openness the Assembly Democrats displayed in this process by not allowing a bill to the floor for a vote. The people of New York deserve to know where their representatives stand on every issue.
As Assemblyman, I will certainly support legalizing MMA in New York and I will also call for more transparency and openness in our law making process.”
