Local Railroad Clubs to Exhibit at Train ShowJan 27th, 2011 | By Dick Bell | Category: Featured Articles
Two area model railroad clubs will have their layouts on display Feb 5 and 6th at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Middletown, NY.
Both the Hudson Valley Large Scale Railroad Club and the Olde Newburgh Model Railroad Club will be among the many exhibitors at the show in the Orange County Fair Arena.
The Hudson Valley Club will display a 25-foot by 74 foot layout of G Scale trains which will include both passenger and freight cars in a multi-track layout. The Olde Newburgh Club of Walden will have three separate displays. One will be a 20 by 20 foot HO scale presentation, a second will be an 8 by 8 foot “O” Gauge layout and the third will be a 10 by 18 foot “N” Scale system. Attendees at the show are invited to stop by the local booths for tips and information on the model railroading hobby and to see first hand what with some materials and a little imagination.
The show is also a great place for youngsters and adults alike to learn about the history of railroading, not only in Orange County but throughout the area and the United States. Middletown was once a central location for the New York Ontario and Western Railroad, with a major station and engine workshops in the community. The line discontinued service from New York to the Catskill Mountains in 1957.
The show is free to children under the age of 12. There will be trains for youngsters to operate and a Roaming Railroad Riding Train that will be picking up passengers during the two days of the show.
