Deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report a one car Personal Injury Automobile Accident that occurred early Saturday evening on Sawkill Road in the Town of Ulster.
At 6:15 PM Deputies responded to a 911 Call reporting a single vehicle roll over motor vehicle accident on Sawkill Road in the area of 250 Sawkill Road. As a result of an Investigation conducted on the scene, Deputies determined that a 2003 Toyota Pickup, operated by Stanley Boice, 89, of Kingston was traveling south on Sawkill Road near Wood Road in the town of Ulster.
It is believed that Boice failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the right shoulder of the roadway. Hiss vehicle then hit a stop sign and continued on colliding with a guide rail and eventually struck a utility pole coming to rest on top of the guide rail.
Several feet of guide rail was destroyed and the utility pole was severed just above the ground.
Boice was assisted in exiting his vehicle by several people that came upon the accident scene. Boice was transported to Kingston Hospital by Mobile Life for further evaluation after he complained of pain throughout his body.
Sawkill Road was closed for approximately one hour as Deputies conducted their investigation and emergency crews worked to remove the pole and guide rail from the roadway. Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by Ulster Hose, Ulster County Department of Public Works, Central Hudson, and the Town of Ulster Police.
