Investigation Leads to Marijuana and Cash in Ulster County

Members of the ULSTER REGIONAL GANG ENFORCEMENT NARCOTICS TEAM (URGENT) report the arrest of a Connecticut man subsequent to a marihuana investigation. Members of URGENT were conducting surveillance in regard to a marihuana trafficking case. The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team stopped a vehicle involved in the investigation. The driver, Eric M. Sobaczewski, 39, of  Glastonberry, CT, was taken into custody for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree. A search of the defendant and the vehicle revealed marihuana and $203,956.00 in cash.

Sobaczewski was arrested, transported to the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center and charged with: Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree.

The currency and the vehicle were seized pending forfeiture proceedings.

Sobaczewski was released on appearance tickets.

Further charges are possible and the investigation is ongoing.

The following agencies have members assigned to URGENT: Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Woodstock Police, Town of Lloyd Police, Town of Shandaken Police, Ulster County Probation, Town of Plattekill Police, Town of New Paltz Police and United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
