Inmate Dies in Ulster County Jail

Members of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of an inmate that occurred early Tuesday morning in the Ulster County Jail.

The inmate, Mark Morgan, 43, of Highland, was received in the Ulster County Jail at approximately 3:30 P.M. on Monday afternoon. Morgan had been arrested by Town of Lloyd Police for an outstanding Bench Warrant(s) originating from the following charges: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th degree, a class D felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, a class A misdemeanor, and Forgery 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Morgan had been arraigned in Town of Lloyd Justice Court before the Honorable Justice Elia and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail and $30,000 property bond. He was placed in Medical Housing subsequent to Jail screening and remained there until his death early Tuesday morning.

Members of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division are investigating the death but there appears to be no foul play involved.

The investigation is ongoing pending autopsy and toxicology reports.

The New York State Commission of Corrections was notified as dictated by New York State Corrections standards.
