Inmate Charged With Felony Assault in Ulster County Jail

Detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report the arrest of Christopher Arrotta, 26 years of age from Port Ewen, NY.

Arrotta was charged with the Felony of Assault in the Second Degree.

On December 27, 2014 Detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Ulster County Correctional Officers that an assault occurred between two inmates inside the jail.  Through investigation it was determined that Christopher Arrotta struck inmate Robert Sumahit, age 50, of Marlboro NY in the face once with his fist causing  Sumahit to fall and strike his head.  Sumahit suffered injuries to his face, mouth and head and was transported to Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley Kingston Campus where he was treated for his injuries and later released back to the custody of the Ulster County Jail.

Arrotta was arrested and charged with the class D Felony of Assault in the Second Degree.  He is currently being held at the Ulster County Jail without bail on an unrelated charge and will be ordered to appear at the City of Kingston Court on January 2, 2015 at 8 a.m. for arraignment.
