Indictment Handed Down for New Years Day Assault in Newburgh

Thomas Cousar, 20, and Corey Owens, 19, both of the City of Newburgh, were indicted Monday on felony charges including attempted murder and first- and second-degree gang assault and assault.
Owens was also charged with felony weapon possession, and Cousar with misdemeanor weapon possession.
The attach took place just after 3:00Am on January 1, 2012 in the City of Newburgh in the vicinity of South Lander Street and Benkard Avenue. Two mmen from Poughkeepsie were assaulted and reports say Cousar and Owens both jumped into the fight. Both victims of the assault were shot in the leg and one suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body.
Cousar and Owens are being held at Orange County Jail, each in lieu of $75,000 bail or $100,000 bond, pending arraignment in Orange County Court.
