A New Windsor man, convicted of murdering his girlfriend, was sentenced on Tuesday to 27 2/3 years to life in prison.
40 year old Timothy Handel was convicted in Orange County Court on May 30 for the murder of Katie Connolly, the mother of his two daughters.
Today, Judge Jeffrey Berry handed down the maximum sentence on each of the three counts; 25 years to life for second-degree murder, and 1 1/3 to 4 years for each of the two evidence tampering charges, to run consecutively.
27 year old Connolly was last seen at her job, at QVC, in Lancaster, PA. on July 7, 2011. Shortly thereafter a missing perosns report was filed. Her dismembered remains were found less than a month later, on August 3 in the back yard of a New Windsor home on Riley Road where Handel had moved just prior to her disappearance. Handel was arrested for the murder that same day.
Along with the prison sentence, Judge Berry also Berry signed permanent orders of protection, prohibiting Handel from contacting Connolly’s mother Linda Smith, the couples two daughters or Bonnie Glazier, the owner of the Riley Road home where Katie Connolly’s body was found.
