Gold MarCom Award Earned for Orange County Driver Safety Posters

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler’s driver safety public service announcements were recently honored with a prestigious Gold Award from MarCom, an international competition that recognizes outstanding creative achievement by marketing and communication professionals. The District Attorney’s Office was also awarded an Honorable Mention by MarCom for its heroin prevention public service announcements, which are currently featured on billboards in Orange County’s more-urban areas.

Posters of the driver safety public service announcements have been distributed to communities and schools throughout Orange County. Two of the posters are focused on drunk driving prevention, with the tagline: “DWI: You Can’t Afford It.” The third poster is focused on teens and the perils of texting while driving. The billboard announcement focuses on the inevitable connection between prescription drug abuse and heroin addiction. Both public service announcements were developed by Media Solstice Marketing & PR.

“Both of these public service announcements are part of the County’s approach to the drug problem: Education, the Empowerment to Seek Treatment, and Enforcement,” said District Attorney Hoovler, “and the posters are an educational tool in that strategy. As District Attorney, I view my role not only as a law enforcement officer, but as a public official responsible for educating and helping the members of this community. The crime prevention message in these public service announcements is intended to support my office’s law enforcement and crime prevention initiatives. I’m proud to know that we have received international recognition for those efforts. I’m also happy to report that both announcements were paid for by money that my office received through the forfeiture of assets of criminal offenders, so the announcements did not cost the taxpayers of Orange County a cent.”

“As a local agency, it has been a real pleasure for us to play a role in Dave Hoovler’s efforts to improve the lives of those in this community,” said Jessica Gardner, Media Solstice president.

MarCom Awards are administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, and the competition has grown to one of the largest of its kind in the world. This year, there were over 6,500 entries from throughout the United States, Canada, and fifteen other countries. Competitors included corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, public relations firms, design shops, production companies, and freelancers. Winners ranged in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies.
