Four Arrested For Town of Newburgh Burglaries

On June 7, 2012 at approximately 5pm Town of Newburgh Police were dispatched to a Sloan Rd residence on a report of a burglary. The residents reported that unknown persons had forced entry into the home while they were out and taken several pieces of electronic equipment. Officer Michael Sisia and Detective William Leonick responded to the residence and through their investigation were able to develop possible suspects.

Several hours later Officer Sisia and Detective Leonick stopped a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. They found the driver of the vehicle to have a suspended driver’s license and he was placed under arrest at the scene. The driver was later charged in connection with the earlier reported burglary.  A passenger in the vehicle was also placed under arrest after he was found in possession of a small amount of marihuana and a laptop computer that had been reported stolen in a separate burglary at a Hy Vue Drive residence on April 16th.

The subsequent investigation by Detective Leonick and Officer Sisia led to two additional individuals being charged with the Sloane Road Burglary and the recovery of the electronic equipment.

Lance Dewindt age 21, of the Town of Newburgh was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree and Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, felonies, and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and Aggravated Unlicensed Use of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, misdemeanors.

Mark Scott, age 23 of the Town of Newburgh was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.

Lashawn  Dewindt ,18 (Lance’s brother) and Nigel Edwards, 19, both of the Town of Newburgh were each charged with Burglary in the Second Degree a felony, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and Petit Larceny, misdemeanors.
