Food for Fines program at the Port Jervis Free Library

Dec 3rd, 2014 | By | Category: Current Events

The Port Jervis Free Library, located at 138 Pike Street, is offering a “Food for Fines” program for the entire month of December, beginning December 1, 2014, to benefit a local food pantry. Patrons with outstanding fines for overdue materials may have their fines erased by donating non-perishable food items.

The library will forgive up to one dollar ($1) in fines for each item donated, up to the maximum fine limit of $10. Ten items will give your library card a clean slate! The library will NOT accept any items that are used, opened, damaged, dented, past the expiration date, or items with bar codes that have been lined or scratched through them.

Everything that is collected during this amnesty period will benefit a local food pantry. These donations will only count towards fines on a patron’s library card. Bills for lost or damaged library items are not eligible for the “Food for Fines” program, and there will be no credits for future fines or for items brought in after December 31st.
